June News!

June was a busy month for us at Bexley Mencap!  There are lots of awareness weeks in June which we always celebrate and we were also busy with lots of events.  Find out more below

Learning Disability Week

This is the biggest week of the year for us!  We celebrated this year by sharing a video that we made about communication on the day that the theme was ‘do you hear us?’.  We also celebrated our member Feras going to the Royal Garden Party to say thank you for volunteering with the RNLI charity for 30 years.

Carers Week

We also celebrated carers week and helped to arrange the Bexley Carers Event at the Holiday Inn.  100 carers came to get information and advice, meet other carers and do lots of activities like yoga and get massages.

Election Question Time

We held a Question Time event for people to hear from local politicians who wanted to be elected as a Member of Parliament.  Members and carers asked them some brilliant questions and got to hear what their ideas and plans were if they were elected.

Member’s Night

We had over 40 members join us for Member’s Night this year with some watching the England Euros football match at Goals in Bexleyheath and others going bowling together.  We had a great night with friends and a little bit of competition!  Member’s night is our new name for men’s and ladies night because it is important to us that people can join the activities they enjoy the most.

Football Event

10 of our members went to join a football event with 11 other learning disability charities.  We played matches against different teams and had a great day!
